BIO Enamel Lacquer Undercoat

DESCRIPTION: A traditional oil based enamel paint which makes it a thick, dirt-repellent and water-repellent, gloss or satin painted finish, containing no toxic solvents, resins or heavy metals. Made from natural renewable materials like plant oils, resins and pigments. It is gentle to the climate and resources. It is suitable for all wood types, steel, aluminium and copper. Especially suitable for use on toys, panelling, skirting and architraves, garage doors and window frames.

PREPARATION: Prepare the surface in accordance Australian Standard 2311 Painting of Buildings. Do not apply coatings to unseasoned or wet timber. Surfaces should be well sanded, dry and cleaned of greasy, waxy and dirty contaminants using BIO Thinner. Round off sharp edges. Hardwoods and other timbers rich in natural oils, waxes, acids and terpenes should be degreased using Bio Thinner because these substances may mix with the paint and prolong its drying time. Imperfect coats may require complete stripping before applying BIO products. It is also good practice to prime back surfaces. Timber moisture content must be under 15% for softwood, and under 12% for hardwood. Don’t apply over acrylic, PUR or epoxy based coatings.

APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly before use with a broad flat stirrer. First apply one coat of BIO Enamel Lacquer Undercoat water based on a new or imperfect surfaces followed by two coats of topcoats Thinning of BIO Enamel Lacquer with water only and topcoat as desired with 5-10% BIO Thinner to obtain a smooth flowing consistency. Minimum wet film thickness is 100 microns. Maintain a wet edge when painting.

METAL PRIMER: Provides anti-corrosive protection for steel, aluminium, brass and copper. Not effective on zinc and galvanized surfaces. The metal should be cleaned of all grease, dirt, processing soil, salt residues, weld scale, rust and other residue which is likely to affect the performance of a protective coating. Apply 1-2 coats of Metal Primer thinly and evenly. Lightly sand between coats when completely dry. Finish with Bio Enamel Lacquer, white or coloured.

DRYING: Apply second and subsequent coats only after previous coat has thoroughly dried. This will take between 24 and 40 hours, and longer with cold or damp weather. Do not be tempted to apply paint too thickly, as this retards the drying process. Lightly sand if necessary after the undercoat. Do not use below +12C and above 80% humidity, in cold damp conditions, when condensation, rain, dew or frost are likely to occur, or hot days, direct sunlight or hot surfaces. Provide adequate ventilation during application and drying. Reaches maximum durability after 8-14 days.
